About Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Department

Providing Sport, Recreation, Arts, Culture, Heritage, Library and Information Services to the broader community of Ekurhuleni is the core function on this department. As its name implies, the different divisions of this department are:

Office of the HoD

Zanele Katembo is heading the Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture and is no stranger to Government.

Arts, Culture and Heritage

Nontuthuzelo Sipambo heads-up the Arts, Culture and Heritage Division that aims to equip future enterprise leaders with relevant entrepreneurial knowledge


Library and Information Services

Divisional Head Karin Muller’s Division is mandated to provide Library and Information Services that are free, equitable, readily available and accessible;




The Operations Division is headed by Matshidiso Mohlabane, the division provides support in the Management and Operations of Sport, Recreation, Arts, Culture, Heritage and Library facilities by facilitating day-to-day minor repairs and maintenance of facilities.



Projects division is responsible for managing all planned and funded projects of the department and is headed by Divisional Head Ofentse Mlambo.


Support Services

Financial, Administrative and Human Resources support services is the role of the Support Division headed by Senior Executive Manager Hannes Dednam.



Sports and Recreation

Sports and Recreation is mandated to promote the delivery of Sport and Recreation towards building an active and winning nation that equitably improves the lives of all citizens.

This division give support to those communities that are living in poverty / previously disadvantage areas with focus on Community Partnerships, access to Sport and Recreation Facilities and Capacity Building.
