Alderwoman Tania Campbell elected Ekurhuleni Executive Mayor

Alderwoman Tania Campbell is the City of Ekurhuleni’s new Executive Mayor, elected at the inaugural sitting on Monday, 22 November, at the OR Tambo Government Precinct in Germiston.

The two mayoral candidates put forward were Alderwoman Campbell from the DA, who received 115 votes, and former Executive Mayor from the ANC Alderman Mzwandile Masina, who received 105 votes. 

Earlier in the day, the Speaker of Council was contested between ANC’s Cllr Dora Mlambo, who received 104 votes, and DA’s Raymond Dhlamini, who received 116 votes. 

Ending the day’s proceedings was the election of Whip of Council which went to Alderman Khetha Shandu (DA) with 118 votes. Cllr Sizakele Masuku (ANC), also nominated, received 104 votes.
