SAVE WATER ON WASHDAY – IT’S THE SMART THING TO DO!

Saving water should be a lifestyle. South Africa is a water scarce country despite the recent rains. Any excessive consumption of water quickly results in water shortages.

So, how can you make saving water a norm, especially when doing the laundry.  These tips can help you save water:

  • Separate the colours and make full loads of washing. Washing only a few items is a waste of water, electricity, washing power and ultimately money.
  • It is possible to re-use the rinsing water – for instance to clean or water plants.
  • Before washing check for stains and treat them – this will avoid having to rewash the clothing item.
  • Clothes that are made of delicate fabric are better off washed by hand. You will use less water; laundry detergent and your clothes will maintain their shape and original appearance for longer.
  • Use cold water whenever you can. A lot of electricity is used to heat the water for a washing cycle. This way you save on your electricity bill as well. A good-quality washing powder that removes stains without compromising the colour of your clothes will remove minor stains on your clothes.
