Vandalism of road infrastructure is becoming a thorn in the City’s service delivery plans.

Traffic lights in Klippoortjie in Boksburg were vandalised on 2 October, causing major frustration to road users.

Head of Roads and Stormwater Sizwe Cele warned against the continuous vandalism of road infrastructure.

“This behaviour is an act of sabotage on the good work that is being done, and it also hampers the City’s service delivery plans. It looks like there are people who go around damaging the City’s infrastructure,” a disappointed Cele said.

He said vandalism hinders service delivery progress, as funds meant to deliver services to the residents now need to be diverted to replace vandalised infrastructure.

“To stop this sabotage we have laid charges with EMPD and SAPS, and they have promised to investigate matter,” Cele added.

Anyone with information on acts of vandalism and theft is requested to contact the City’s Call Centre 0860 543 000 or report these criminal activities to the SAPS on 10111.
