Following the massive rehabilitation of Barry Marais Road undertaken recently, the road islands required a much needed coat of paint – not only will this make them visible but also the road safer.

The Head of Roads and Stormwater Department, Sizwe Cele, said the City is committed to ensure the safety of road users. “Painting of this islands means we are at the end of the rehabilitation of Barry Marais Road,” Cele said.

Barry Marais connects Dunswart industrial site with townships such as Katlehong, Vosloorus and Thokoza. Rehabilitating roads that lead to industrial sites has been one of the City’s initiative to boost and play a role in the development of the economy.

“Our mandate and responsibility as a department is to provide better roads that will ensure the smooth running of our City’s economic activities,” Cele explained.

In strengthening its partnership with communities, the City calls upon its residents to report all road-related issues through its call centre on 0860 543 000/ or through My CoE App.
