The Rooikraal landfill site is currently closed due to an ongoing process of appointing a service provider for operations and maintenance.
This follows the expiry of the contract at the end of December 2020. In the interim, the Department of Waste Management is working around the clock to appoint a service provide on a month-to-month basis until the finalisation of a three-year tender appointment process.
While the Rooikraal landfill site is closed alternative landfill sites can be used:
- Weltevreden landfill site – Brakpan
- Platkop landfill site – next to N3 highway (South Vosloorus)
- Simmer and Jack landfill site – Germiston
