Registration for Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards has been extended until 10 September 2021 to allow artists who couldn’t register due to technical glitches on the portal for them to register.

The initial date for registration was between 26 July and 27 August and due to technical challenges where artists couldn’t be able to register and pay the R50 registration fee this date had to be extended. The awards are open for all the artists who are above 18 years old and are requested to use this extension to register their participation in the awards on www.tmfaa.ekurhuleni.gov.za. This year’s competition is the 33rd edition and due to the current COVID-19 situation it will be held virtually to curb the spread of this virus.

“We have heard the cries of our artists who couldn’t register and we felt that we should extend in order to give those that couldn’t register to be able to have an opportunity of being part of this great occasion, and we call upon all the artists not to miss out on this opportunity and register,’’ Tshediso Makhetha, Manager: Visual Arts & Galleries said.

Thami Mnyele Fine Art Awards is a contemporary competition which was named after the late Thami Mnyele who was also an artist and an activist as well, and this seeks to inspire the passion he had for art. This is one of the oldest and prestigious awards in the history of the City and the country at large and it is a platform where artists are encouraged to show their talents. The competition is open for creative artists such as crafters who have the talent and the passion to express their feelings and life experiences through art. The best artist with a winning artwork will walk away with a first prize of a whooping R200 00.00 for their effort.

Winning artworks will be announced on 23 September at 12h00, and those artworks will be exhibited online as from 24 September 2021 to 29 October 2021.
