Chief Specialist Media Relations and Spokesperson
Zweli Dlamini is the Chief Specialist Media Relations and Spokesperson in the office of the City Manager, and brings with him a wealth of experience, not only in local government.
After completing his studies in journalism, Zweli worked for print media before joining the City of Ekurhuleni in 2004 as senior media officer, working his way up the ranks to media manager and spokesperson of the City of Ekurhuleni. In 2011 he moved to the executive mayor’s office as spokesperson and then in 2017 to the city manager’s office.
Career highlights include playing a critical role in ending the Paso/Cosas feud that embroiled KwaThema in the mid-90s through factual articles and the conceptualisation of the working session that led to the signing of the final peace treaty at Suikerbosrand.
At the City he was involved in starting the Lentswe la Ekurhuleni publication aimed at informal settlement dwellers and has played a major role in the writing of State of City addresses as well as budget speeches as well as the compiling of key strategic documents for mayoral lekgotlas.
Zweli was part of the team that conceptualized the mayoral service delivery campaign Siyaqhuba, which was initiated end 2014 and formulated the City’s first media policy.
He has successfully completed various journalism related courses including Essential Tools for Editors of Journalists through Rhodes University, Municipal Financial Management Act, served on the Gauteng Government Communicators Forum.
